Tone in AI answers: what it means and how to check it

What tone means in AI answers about you, what the tone score is and is not, how to check the answers behind it, and what you can do when AI describes you negatively.

What tone means

Tone is the attitude an AI answer takes toward your business: positive, neutral, negative or mixed. It describes the AI answers themselves. It is not social media sentiment, and it is not a survey of what your customers think.

The tone score

AITWIRE gives every answer it collects a tone label and a score from 0 to 100%, where 50% is neutral. Higher leans positive and lower leans negative.

In AI Monitor (Answer Accuracy in the sidebar), the AI Sentiment section shows your average tone over the last 30 days and the main tone for each AI system. Tone also appears as Sentiment among your scores. What you see depends on your plan.

What the score is not

  • Not a precise grade. Treat tone as directional: a trend signal that shows which way answers lean and how that changes over time. Our Methodology page explains how grading is checked and when a score is treated as directional.
  • Not accuracy. An answer can be warm and wrong, or blunt and right. Accuracy is scored separately, against the facts you have confirmed.
  • Not every customer's experience. Tone describes the answers to the questions in your Prompt Library, asked without personalization. See How AITWIRE measures AI answers about you.

Check the answers behind it

  • In AI Monitor, open Cycle Results, pick a cycle and open any answer. You see the question, the full answer, and its sentiment label and score.
  • On eligible accounts, Download (CSV) on the same page exports the full text of each answer with its sentiment_label and sentiment_score. See Downloading Your Probe and Answer Data (CSV).

Flag a reading you disagree with

On eligible accounts, AI Monitor has a card called Audit how AI describes your tone. It lists answers whose tone we have flagged for you to check. Open the answers, then choose Positive, Neutral or Negative. Your choice replaces our reading for those answers in your own results.

When AI describes you negatively

Counter a negative answer with evidence. AITWIRE does not change what an AI system says, and publishing does not guarantee that answers change. What you can do:

  • Keep Your Facts current. They are what accuracy is graded against, and the source of what AITWIRE publishes for you.
  • Publish your verified facts. AITWIRE publishes the facts you approve to the machine-readable surfaces it manages, which AI systems read. Nothing is published without your approval. See Publishing Your Machine-Readable Data.
  • Follow up the alert. A negative answer can raise an alert under Alerts & Knowledge Gaps in AI Monitor. On eligible accounts, an alert can open a correction campaign, which locks a baseline once you approve it and then re-measures. See AI Correction Campaigns.
  • Look at What to Publish Next. On eligible accounts, it can suggest content when your tone is low or falling.
  • Re-measure. AITWIRE keeps asking your questions on your schedule, so you can see whether tone moved. A change is reported as real only when it clears the statistics.
